Summary

A leadoff symposium at Heart Failure 2014 provided an update on the diagnosis of acute heart failure (AHF). This article provides an overview of the clinical assessment of AHF, which is an increasingly common cause of hospitalization and death, as well as point-of-care pulmonary ultrasound in assessing pulmonary congestion, biomarkers in the diagnosis of AHF, and an overview of the assessment and monitoring of congestion using noninvasive devices.
