Summary

Ankle fractures are common injuries that result in pain, swelling, and, often, the need to take narcotic pain medication. The prospective randomized Aspiration for Pain Relief Following Ankle Fracture trial [NCT01484535], as discussed in this article, was conducted to assess the impact of aspiration of ankle fracture hemarthrosis on pain relief and need for pain medication.
