Summary

Visceral fat accumulation has been correlated with the development of many common diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and has been shown to be a more important contributor than body mass index to obesity-related metabolic risk factors [Okauchi Y et al. Diabetes Care 2007]. This article discusses the trends in metabolic syndrome and diabetes in both Korea and China.
