Summary

The Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes [ACCORD] Lipid study [NCT00000620] does not support the use of combination fibrate and statin therapy compared with statin therapy alone to reduce cardiovascular risk in high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, subgroup analyses suggest a treatment interaction that is associated with combination therapy and gender and a possible interaction between combination therapy and severe dyslipidemia.
