A significant drawback is the occurrence of acute graft-vs-host disease, which occurs when newly transplanted donor lymphocytes attack the transplant recipient's body. The discovery of the Th17-prone CD146+CCR5+ T-cell population may be an early biomarker for intestinal graft-vs-host disease leading to more specific preventions strategies.
