In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 586,004 cases worldwide [WHO Prevention of Blindness and Visual Impairment: 2010], with the highest numbers of visual impairment and blindness in Southeast Asia. This article discusses global challenges and opportunities in the treatment of DR.
