Summary
The impact of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) extends beyond the symptoms of hyperactivity and inattentiveness. Approximately one-quarter of children with ADHD are reported as having emotional problems, expressed as temper outbursts, mood lability, and dysphoria [American Psychiatric Association. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 2000], all of which impair the quality of life of the child and his family [Escobar R et al. Pediatrics 2005; Klassen AF, Miller A, Fine S. Pediatrics 2004].
