AB  - Diabetic painful neuropathy (DPN) causes painful symptoms in 30% of diabetes patients and has an association with cardiovascular disease mortality. Risk factors for DPN include hypertension, smoking, elevated triglycerides, elevated cholesterol, a high body mass index, a high HbA1C, and the duration of diabetes [Tesfaye et al. N Engl J Med 2005]. This article provides an overview of new pharmacological treatments and relevant clinical trials.
