Summary
The 2014 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guidelines for the management of patients with valvular heart disease include new definitions of disease severity and provide for a more in-depth assessment of risk and guidance on the choice of optimal therapy, particularly with respect to transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The format of the guidelines has also been improved to improve their use in clinical practice.
