Summary

Accurate blood pressure (BP) measurement is essential to reduce cardiovascular risk and accurately identify treatment resistant hypertension (RH). Home BP monitoring and 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring are complementary to office BP measurement. This article reviews the recommendations for their use by the European Society of Hypertension and European Society of Cardiology Hypertension Guidelines [Mancia G et al. J Hypertens 2013], as well as discusses updates in the treatment of RH.
