Summary
A total of 347 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, while out that almost 8 million people had diabetic retinopathy (DR) in 2010; that number is projected to rise to about 11 million in 2030 and to 14 million in 2050. This article provides updates on current diagnosis and treatment of DR.
