State-of-the-Art Surgical and Endovascular Treatment for Intracranial Occlusive Disease

Summary

High oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) is detectable by positron emission tomography (PET), and superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) bypass surgery can be used to improve cerebral hemodynamics in stroke risk patients [Zipfel et al. Skull Base 2005]. This article discusses some of the studies that have used PET to detect OEF, including the COSS Study, WASID Trial, SAMMPRIS Study.
