Summary

The risk-versus-benefit that is associated with sports in patients with hypertension has received a great deal of attention over the past several years, particularly related to sudden cardiac death in hypertensive athletes. While exercise is associated with lower overall cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, the risk of sudden death is increased during or immediately after exertion.
