Antihypertensive therapy significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality that accompanies arterial hypertension. Despite the benefits of blood pressure reduction, approximately 70% of hypertensive adults worldwide are uncontrolled [Hajjar I et al. JAMA 2003]. This article discusses the emerging role of combination therapy in the management of difficult-to-treat hypertension.
