Summary
Recent controversy has surrounded the discovery of a small but definite increase in late stent thrombosis with drug-eluting stents (DES). Despite the increased risk for late stent thrombosis with DES, these stents may be preferable to bare metal stents in certain patient subgroups. This article discusses best practices when selecting patients for DES.
