AB  - Patients with major mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, have an increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its components (ie, risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes). This article discusses results from a study to determine if metabolic risk factors in patients diagnosed with serious mental illness improved with motivational interviewing performed weekly and routine follow-up care.
