Aspirin appears ineffective in preventing postoperative myocardial infarction following noncardiac surgery, but it may have a protective role before surgery. Antithrombotic therapy may be used for persistent paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, with attention paid to the risks of stroke and bleeding.
