Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), we are pleased to present the official peer-reviewed highlights from the SCAI 2015 Scientific Sessions, held this past May in San Diego, California. Interventional cardiology’s annual meeting, SCAI Scientific Sessions, is an established, international conference that attracts key opinion leaders, well-recognized scientists, interventional and invasive cardiologists, catheterization laboratory professionals, and other health care providers, who all contribute to scientific exchange of the highest level. The steadily growing international attendance confirms the relevance of SCAI Scientific Sessions within the worldwide scientific community.
While some of the research studies presented at the live conference were simultaneously published in the academic literature, many others may not get published for some time. To help bridge the gap between live presentation and publication, we continue to partner with MD Conference Express® to provide information for practitioners seeking to learn how the data presented at SCAI 2015 may impact practice in their catheterization laboratories. MD Conference Express provides timely highlights of high-impact presentations from the live conference, long before they are published in the academic literature, and is a trusted education resource. The articles selected for this issue underwent a rigorous, 5-step peer-review process to ensure their accuracy and to provide a reliable interim information source prior to the research being vetted by the standard journal peer-review process.
The topics selected for this issue were determined in direct consultation with SCAI physician leaders. All articles were written strictly from primary source data (no press releases and no third-party opinion). The faculty who presented these data live were invited to review and comment on the resulting articles. Finally, an independent board of world experts carefully peer-reviewed the content to ensure accuracy and a balanced perspective.
We hope you enjoy this SCAI 2015 issue of MD Conference Express and find it to be useful to your practice. We also encourage you to get involved with SCAI throughout the year to improve your practice and our specialty. We hope you will plan to join us in Orlando, Florida, for SCAI 2016 Scientific Sessions on May 4 to 7, 2016. You can learn more at www.SCAI.org/SCAI2016.
Best regards,
James Blankenship, MD, FSCAI
