Abstract:

Various authorities in the past 25 years have encouraged pharmacists to communicate with patients about their drug therapy. This paper describes and evaluates various guidelines and models that authors have recommended that pharmacists use in their interactions with patients. While there are many guidelines for pharmacist-patient interactions, there are relatively few comprehensively described models or theories in the pharmacy literature. A challenge for pharmacy educators is to identify psychosocial and behavior principles that practitioners can use to improve their patients' well-being.
