Abstract

A new type of union for professionals is evolving: one that negotiates shared decision making plus protection into bargaining agreements. Such organizations combine the best features of trade unionism and individualism. They are bound to grow and increase as professionals continue to seek participation on control over their work situations while needing protection from capricious acts of management. In this way professionalism and unionism are compatible.
