Abstract

This field study examined whether there is a relationship between bargaining behavior and the location of negotiations. A random sample of seventy grievance officials--thirty-five management representatives and thirty-five union representatives--was observed. Results show a relationship exists between location of negotiations and specific bargaining behaviors used in the resolution of grievances. While challenging the limited evidence from laboratory research, these findings are consistent with recent theoretical development.
